David La Chapelle’s Earth Laughs in Flowers, showing at Robilant and Voena, London. Inspired by Hamatreya by Ralph Waldo Emerson: ‘Where are these men? Asleep beneath their grounds: and strangers, fond as they, their furrows plough. Earth laughs in flowers, to see her boastful boys earth-proud, proud of the earth which is not theirs; who steer the plough, but cannot steer their feet, clear of the grave.’ One of my favourite writers – I love that La Chapelle is spreading the good word through his images. Maybe he’ll take on Leaves of Grass‘ Song of Myself next? Full article here. HF.
