List love

A very clever curator came up with this one: using the collection of the Smithsonian Archives of American Art to present the lists and organisational scribblings of artists. To-dos, Illustrated Inventories, Collected Thoughts and Other Artists’ Enumerations is currently showing at the Morgan Library and Museum.

I can’t help but love the final one, above, by architect Eero Saarinen, to his wife. The last remark makes it all the more charming.

Alfred Konrad’s packing list; Philip Evergood, list of contacts; Alexander Calder’s list of artworks; Oscar Bluemner’s thumbnail sketches; Leo Van Witsen’s list of costume fabrics; Paul Bransom’s list of animals. View the exhibition in more detail here. HF.
