Department store samphire

Just back from the David Jones Spring flower show. Though not quite as spectacular as other years, it is still worth seeing. Huge boughs of cymbidium, singapore and phalaenopsis orchids with proteas, gymea lilies, gum leaf, ferns, banksias, bottlebrush, succulents, samphire, birds of paradise…

The windows are a celebration of 25 years of the Spring flower show and some are more successful than others – the coral sea (image above), rainforest and Australian native displays look great whilst the green cymbidium orchids and red dahlias on vertical streamers didn’t really impress.

I think I’m a bit over the orchids – they seem to be the feature every year. Come on, DJs – if there were ever a time to rejuvenate your image and shake things up, it’s now. Next year, get Joost Baker to do something with ranunculas. HF.
